Jose Mourinho has responded directly to gathering media momentum that Goalkeeper Peter Cech could l;eave this summer, with the Portugese claiming it will take “huge money” for him to leave Stamford Bridge.
Cech has fallen behind young protege Thibaut Courtois this season. The young Belgian has really set the world alight during loan a 2 year spell with Atletico Madrid, which prompted Chelsea to elevate him to their first team, and make him the main man. Cech is 32, arguably a goalkeepers prime, yet needs ot be playing week in week out. He is thought to be frustrated with his lack of opportunities this season. This has alerted teams like Liverpool, Arsenal and PSG to keep watch over developments.
Mourinho went on to say “I will just wait. I would like him very much to stay. I don’t waste my time trying to persuade him, because I know nobody can persuade him”.
“If he tells me he wants to leave, I will tell him my opinion and my opinion is one of the three best goalkeepers in the world. Huge money.”
Cech could lay claim to being the most consistent signing of the Abramovich era. He has been a consistent performer, and also won all the game has to offer during his time with Chelsea. Reports on Tuesday though ramped up speculation that the London club where looking for somebody happy to be a number two for their young Belgian stopper. Names like Brad Friedel, John Ruddy and Shay Given all got linked with that job.
It is starting to look increasingly unlikely that Chech will stay with Chelsea. As Mourinho starts to mold his new generation of world beaters to try and compete with the success of his previous Chelsea side, yet another senior Chelsea legend could be moved on. All to make way for the new era of dominance that the boys form The Kings Road are threatening.
